Charitable Donations

Viterra has a longstanding commitment to helping those in the communities in which we live and work.  We have made significant financial contributions to various charitable organizations, disaster relief funds and industry associations, including but not limited to the following:

Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation

Viterra is a proud supporter of the annual Kinsmen Foundation telethon which raises funds to support those with special needs or requiring assistance to access medical treatment.  In 2012, Viterra matched the first $100,000 contributed by shareholders in a share redemption program that raised a total of $418,859.91.

The Canadian Foodgrains Bank
Viterra is a long-term supporter of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, an organization dedicated to ending hunger in developing countries. In 2012 Viterra donated more than $175,000 in crop inputs to support 50 local growing projects across Western Canada to raise funds for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. The inputs were used to plant over 8,000 acres of wheat, durum, barley, canola and flax, with the proceeds from the sale of the crops donated to the Foodgrains Bank.

United Way
The United Way’s mission is to improve lives and strengthen communities by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action. Viterra and our employees have supported the fundraising efforts of the United Way for many years.  Supported by corporate matching, our employees have come together to raise funds for local United Way organizations around Viterra’s main office locations.

Agriculture in the Classroom
Viterra supports Ag in the Classroom by donating $5,000 to each of its divisions in Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. This program promotes agriculture education and awareness to children in school. Ag in the Classroom exists to provide balanced, factual information to teachers and students and encourage young people to make educated decisions relating to food, environment, careers and lifestyle.

Farmers with Disabilities
Viterra is proud to support Farmers with Disabilities through an ongoing financial commitment to the Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba chapters.  This money supports the groups’ efforts to educate farmers and the public about farm safety.

North American Flood Assistance
Viterra offered assistance of $100,000 to communities in Western Canada and the United States affected by spring flooding in 2011.  The program was geared to helping communities restore infrastructure, equipment and community services.

Additional Charitable Organizations
Viterra and its employees also regularly make donations to community-based organizations devoted to enhancing health in our communities through research, programs, and services.  Employees have taken part in a variety of fundraising initiatives to contribute to worthy organizations including Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, The Arthritis Society, Canadian Cancer Society, Prostate Cancer Canada, Children’s Wish Foundation, and the CURE Foundation.  Viterra is proud of the generosity of our employees and is pleased to have supplemented their charitable efforts with corporate support.
